1. Who we are
ScreenAnswer (“we,” “us,” or “our”) operates screenanswer.cc, the customer portal, related Cloudflare-hosted services, the Windows desktop application, the Chrome extension, and associated downloads and support channels.
Contact for privacy questions: [email protected] · Contact page · Discord
2. Scope
This policy covers data handled when you:
- Visit or use screenanswer.cc and related pages
- Create or use a portal account (login, licenses, referrals, Discord link)
- Use the ScreenAnswer Windows app
- Use the ScreenAnswer Chrome extension
- Contact us for support or join community channels we operate
By using ScreenAnswer you agree to this policy and our Terms of Service.
3. Summary (Chrome Web Store / limited use)
ScreenAnswer’s single purpose is to help you get AI answers to text or screen content you choose to process, after you take a clear action (hotkey, capture, or similar), using account/license checks and AI providers you configure or that we route through for the product.
- We do not sell your personal information.
- We do not use your data for unrelated interest-based advertising or retargeting.
- We do not use your data to determine creditworthiness or for lending.
- We use data only to provide, secure, and improve ScreenAnswer’s disclosed features, or as required by law.
- Transfers to third parties occur only as needed for those features (for example authentication on our servers, AI processing, hosting), for security, to comply with law, or as part of a business transfer.
4. Information we collect
4.1 Account and authentication
- Email and password when you register or log in to the portal or extension
- Session tokens after login (stored by the browser extension or app as needed)
- License keys and product/entitlement status (including free promo eligibility)
- Discord account identifiers if you connect Discord for verification, community, or promo flows
- Referral codes and related referral/commission records if you use the referral program
4.2 Chrome extension (local + network)
- Stored on your device (Chrome storage): session token, email (or key-login marker), your Groq API key (if you paste one), model preference, overlay settings (opacity, font size, hold duration), and local update-notification preferences
- Website content you select: when you trigger the extension (for example hold Ctrl+Shift), the extension reads the text you highlighted on the active page and sends it to Groq using your API key to generate an answer
- Sent to ScreenAnswer portal: login credentials, session validation, and license-key activation as needed to confirm you may use the product
- Update checks: the extension may fetch a public version/update JSON from our site or storage hosts (for example screenanswer.cc or R2). This is not a browsing-history tracker.
The extension does not sell browsing history. It does not scrape full pages in the background for marketing. It processes selection (and related solve flow) when you trigger it.
4.3 Windows desktop app
- License activation and online validation (license key, hardware/device identifiers as implemented for licensing)
- Settings you configure in the app (hotkeys, overlay appearance, and similar preferences), typically stored locally
- Content you choose to capture or send for answering (for example selected region, screenshot, or text), processed to provide the answer feature; third-party AI providers may receive that content under their terms
- AI Note Taker (optional, opt-in): when you click Start listening, microphone audio is captured locally in short chunks and sent to Groq Whisper using your Groq API key for speech-to-text. Transcript/notes you generate may be saved on your device if you choose Save. ScreenAnswer does not host or permanently store your lecture audio on our servers. Follow your school or workplace policies before recording.
- Update checks against our update services when enabled
4.4 Website and portal
- Account profile data you provide (email, password hashes/secrets as stored by our backend)
- Purchase/license records associated with your account
- Referral program data if you participate
- Standard technical logs from our hosting provider (for example IP address, timestamps, request paths) used for security, abuse prevention, and reliability
4.5 Support and community
If you email us or message us on Discord, we receive the content of those communications and any account details you include so we can help you.
4.6 What we do not intentionally collect
- Health information as a product category
- Payment card numbers inside the Chrome extension (payments, if any, are handled by our payment/checkout providers under their policies)
- Precise location for advertising
- Full continuous web browsing history for profiling or ads
5. How we use information
- Provide ScreenAnswer features (login, license/promo checks, AI answers, overlays, referrals)
- Authenticate you and prevent unauthorized use
- Operate, secure, and improve the service (including abuse detection and updates)
- Communicate about your account, support requests, or material product changes
- Comply with law and enforce our Terms
6. How we share information
We share data only as needed for the product or as required by law:
- Groq: when you use text answering, selected/highlighted text (and optional local study-note context you attach) is sent to Groq using your API key under Groq’s terms. ScreenAnswer does not claim whether Groq trains on that data—that depends on Groq’s current terms and your account settings with them.
- Google Gemini (geo / screenshot mode): screenshots you capture for geo answering are sent to Google’s Gemini API using your Gemini API key. Screenshots are processed to produce answers; they are not uploaded to ScreenAnswer servers as a permanent media library.
- Hosting and infrastructure (Cloudflare Workers, Pages, D1, R2, and related services) that host the website, portal API, and public software updates on our behalf
- Discord if you use OAuth connect or community support (their policies apply to their platform)
- Payment processors when checkout goes live for paid plans (not yet required for free promo-only use)
- Authorities or parties when required by law, or to protect rights, safety, and security
- Successors in a merger, acquisition, or asset sale, subject to this policy or equivalent protections
We do not sell personal information.
7. What we store where (minimization)
- On our servers (portal / D1): email, password hash+salt, sessions, licenses, promo claims, referral records, optional Discord IDs, purchase records when payments exist. Not full screenshots of your desktop as a cloud archive.
- On your device only: answer history, hotkeys, overlay settings, API keys you paste, optional study notes files you attach, local logs used for troubleshooting (for example auto-highlight diagnostics without full question bodies).
- Public object storage (R2): software update packages and public version JSON (not private user uploads).
- Clipboard (optional, Chrome): if enabled, the extension may copy the answer text to your clipboard for paste; it does not scrape clipboard history.
8. Storage, security, and retention
- Account and license data are stored on our backend infrastructure (Cloudflare and related services).
- We transmit sensitive data over HTTPS.
- Passwords are stored hashed (not in plain text).
- No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure; we use reasonable safeguards appropriate to the service.
- We retain account and license records while your account is active and as needed for legal, security, fraud prevention, and accounting. You may delete your portal account in the customer portal (password confirmation) or email us for help. Device-local data remains until you clear app data / uninstall.
9. Cookies and similar technologies
-
The portal may set an HttpOnly, Secure, SameSite session cookie (
sa_session) for authentication when using cookie-based flows. - The Chrome extension and desktop app primarily use local storage / local files for session tokens rather than advertising cookies.
- We do not currently run third-party ad trackers on the main product flows described here.
10. Your choices and controls
- Log out of the extension or app; clear extension storage via Chrome settings if you uninstall
- Remove or replace your Groq / Gemini API keys in settings
- Do not highlight or capture content you do not want processed by AI
- Disconnect Discord where the portal allows
- Delete your portal account: log in at screenanswer.cc/portal → Account → Delete my account (requires password confirmation)
- Email us for access, correction, or deletion help if self-service is not enough
11. AI use and safety (product, not medical service)
- ScreenAnswer is a productivity / study assistant. It is not a medical, crisis, or emergency service.
- We do not intentionally design system prompts to bypass AI provider safety controls.
- AI answers can be wrong; you are responsible for how you use them.
- Provider safety behavior depends on Groq / Google models and their policies, which can change.
12. Children’s privacy
ScreenAnswer is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under that age. If you believe a child provided us data, contact us and we will take appropriate steps.
13. International users
Our services may be hosted in the United States or other regions where Cloudflare and our providers operate. If you use ScreenAnswer from another country, you understand your information may be processed in those locations subject to this policy and applicable law.
14. Third-party links and services
Our site or apps may link to third-party services (AI providers, Discord, payment pages). Their privacy practices are governed by their own policies. We are not responsible for third-party sites or services.
15. Chrome extension permissions (plain language)
For users of the Chrome extension, permissions are used as follows:
- storage — save login session, your API key, and display settings on your device
- activeTab / scripting — when you trigger ScreenAnswer, read your selection and show the answer overlay
- alarms — schedule occasional update checks
- clipboardWrite — optionally copy the AI answer so you can paste it (can be disabled in the popup)
- Host access to Groq, our portal, and our update/download hosts — only for answering, auth/license, and update metadata
The extension does not execute remote code; scripts ship inside the extension package.
16. Payments, subscriptions, and refunds
Website checkout may show plans (day / week / month / lifetime). Where purchase buttons are not yet live, no card data is collected by ScreenAnswer through those buttons. When payments go live, the payment provider will process card data under their policy; ScreenAnswer will store entitlement / purchase records as needed for licenses and support. Refund and cancellation rules will be stated at checkout and in Terms—this policy is not a substitute for those terms. Recurring subscription cancellation UX will be provided if automatic renewals are offered.
17. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The “last updated” date at the top will change when we do. Continued use of ScreenAnswer after changes means you accept the updated policy, except where applicable law requires additional consent.
